Anthropological Film by Kristine Nyborg In the late 1800s two expeditions of Sami reindeer herders were recruited from Norway by the American Government to help teach the Alaska Natives how to herd reindeer. The animal was not indigenous to Alaska at the time, and the importation of domesticated reindeer to Alaska changed the Natives from being hunters and gatherers to also being herders. The reindeer has now become a part of Alaska's diet. The people of Alaska tell the story of how the Sami have influenced their lives.
